On September 3, 2018, the first China Japan Enterprise Legal Forum, sponsored by the Japan Research Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University, the Japan Business Law Friends Association, and co organized by Kaiyuan School of Law of Shanghai Jiaotong University, the China Enterprise Association in Japan, and the China Corporation Legal Research Institute of the Legal Daily, was successfully held in Tokyo.
With the theme of "Looking Forward to the Future of Corporate Legal Affairs", the forum invited the senior legal officers of famous Chinese and Japanese enterprises to conduct in-depth discussions on topics such as the proper posture of corporate legal departments, the latest trend of legal risk control, corporate information management in the context of globalization, the responsibilities and personnel training of legal departments, and international legal practice.
This forum has attracted extensive attention from Chinese and Japanese corporate legal professionals and scholars. The number of participants reached 380, which is unprecedented. Among them, more than 40 Chinese participants in Japan included teachers from Japan Research Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University and Kaiyuan Law School, leaders of Legal Daily, heads of legal departments of well-known enterprises such as Baidu, Shanghai Urban Construction Group, Sinopec Zhejiang Company, and members of Zhejiang Enterprise Legal Advisory Association. Representatives of nearly 30 Chinese funded enterprises in Japan, people from nearly 150 Japanese enterprises and lawyers from many Japanese legal service institutions came to Tokyo from all over Japan to attend the forum. The Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Japan and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan also attended the forum to express official support.

Professor Ji Weidong, Director of Japan Research Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University, delivered a speech on behalf of the Chinese sponsor. Professor Ji Weidong first introduced the development history of Sino Japanese corporate legal exchanges on the platform of Kaiyuan Law School. Now, with the establishment of the Japanese Research Center, it will be used as a bridge to carry forward the tradition of Sino Japanese legal exchanges.

Professor Ji Weidong said that Chinese enterprises were faced with legal frictions similar to the trade frictions between Japan and the United States in the 1980s, as well as the same issues of institutional reform in Japan when the foam burst and the economic structure was reformed in the 1990s. In addition, the Yangtze River basin is the forefront of China's market economy and the most active area for enterprise activities. This area is very similar to the Tokyo Circle, forming a cosmopolitan metropolitan area with Shanghai as the central city. The China Japan Enterprise Legal Forum was held alternately in Tokyo and Shanghai, which is correct and appropriate for the cooperation between China and Japan and even the integration of East Asia's economy. In view of the current complex forms, it is necessary to design systems that can reduce complexity; In view of the uncertain situation, it is necessary to carry out legal activities to strengthen certainty. In this sense, the Chinese economic community has ushered in the era of corporate legal affairs, and the Sino Japanese exchanges and cooperation around corporate legal affairs have become increasingly important.

In this forum, the open symposium in the morning took the theme of "the proper posture of the corporate legal department that helps enterprises' business activities". Hiroshi Hiroshima, Minister of Legal Affairs of Japan Tobacco, Yanya Nakajima, Minister of Legal Affairs of Fuji Xerox, Pei Xuelong, Executive President of Jiangxi Business Group, and Tan Jun, General Manager of Legal Affairs of Baidu, introduced their corporate legal practical experience from the aspects of international business management, risk control, M&A, legal personnel training, etc. Mr. Tan Jun introduced that Baidu's legal department has more than 700 employees, and combined with external lawyers, it can deal with daily and unexpected legal work, which has aroused the admiration of Japanese guests.

The afternoon was held in the form of group discussion. The heads of the legal departments of Chinese and Japanese enterprises share practical experience, advice and suggestions around the latest trend of legal risk control, enterprise information management in the context of globalization, the responsibilities and personnel training of the legal departments, international legal practice and other aspects, with a view to jointly weaving a blueprint for China Japan economic development and a new vision of world free trade. The venue was full, and the discussion among the participants was very warm. People from the corporate legal circles of China and Japan showed great interest in each other's company and legal work experience.
The Sino Japanese Corporate Legal Forum will be a regular focus of the Japan Research Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University. In the future, the forum is planned to be held alternately in Shanghai, China and Tokyo, Japan, aiming to build a platform for in-depth dialogue and exchange between Chinese and Japanese corporate legal experts, government functional departments, lawyers and legal experts. Through the ideological collision and exchange of experts in various fields and sectors, the forum will build consensus and jointly promote the mutual exchange and learning between Chinese and Japanese legal circles, while supporting the "the Belt and Road" strategy Chinese enterprises "go global" to conduct globalization risk management and control and other major issues, and provide intellectual support and a solid cooperation network.
The Sino Japanese Enterprise Legal Forum will be held in Shanghai Jiaotong University next year.
