On the morning of November 23, a delegation from the History ResearchOffice of the Instituteof Japanese Studies (“the Office”), CASS visited Center for Japanese Studies, Shanghai Jiao Tong University(“theCenter”). The guests included Jin Ying, Director and Researcher of the Office,Zou Haodan, Associate Researcher of the Office, Li Ruoyu, Associate Researcherof the School of History & Culture, Sichuan University and Wang Zanwei,Assistant Researcher of the Office. The hosts included Professor Ji Weidong, UniversityProfessor of Humanity and Social Sciences and Director of the Center. Professor Chen Yingfang, professor of School of International and PublicAffairs, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Part-time Research Fellow of theCenter, Professor Cheng Zhaoqi, Director of Tokyo Trials Research Center,Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Part-time Researcher Fellow of the Center,Yin Yue, Assistant Researcher of the Center, Xu Yue, General Manager of AdministrativeOffice and Li Yiqiao, Director of Foreign Affairs of Administrative Office ofthe Center.
Director Ji Weidong expressed his welcome to the delegation from theOffice. He also introduced that as an academic research institution andinternational exchange platform, the Center currently focused on the researchfields such as marine policies, corporate legal affairs, digital economy,political culture and etc He also introduced a series of institutionalizedactivities such as the "Sino-Japanese Corporate Legal Affairs Forum","Sino-Japanese Enterprise Innovation Cooperation Forum", and "EastAsian Law and Economics Lecture Series".
Professor Chen Yingfang introduced that her main research field was Sino Japaneseurban sociology, including transitional society research, urban sociology, youthsociology and etc. Professor Cheng Zhaoqi introduced that his main researchfield was Tokyo Trials and Sino-Japanese relations history. He also elaboratedresearch results such as anti-war projects and the documentary "TokyoTrials" . Assistant Researcher Yin Yue introduced that her main researchfield was Japanese modern politics, political psychology, and comparativepolitical system research.
Director Jin Ying, introduced that the Office, a newly establishedresearch office of the Institute of Japanese Studies,CASS(theInstitute), was established in May 2023 . She also introduced that in addition to theHistory Research Office, there were seven other departments in the Institute,including "Political Research Office", "Economic ResearchOffice", "Diplomatic Research Office", "Society and CultureResearch Office", "Comprehensive Strategy Research Office", and"Editorial Office for Japanese Studies". Among them, the Office focusedon the historical process of Japan after World War II, with a particularemphasis on major issues such as the comprehensive historical changes ,trajectories of various fields, and the abstraction and generation of theories.
Afterwards, both sides conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on thedisciplinary development of post-war Japanese history research and the possibilityof future cooperation.
