On September 14, the opening day of the China Japan Youth Elite Summer Camp and the lecture of Tokyo University Osaka University was held in the Oriental Hall of Kaiyuan Law School, Xuhui Campus, Shanghai Jiaotong University. This open day activity was hosted by Shanghai Jiaotong University, and undertaken by the Japan Research Center, School of Foreign Languages, and Kaiyuan Law School of Shanghai Jiaotong University. Professor Ji Weidong, director of the Japan Research Center, made a speech on the topic of "The New Era of East Asia and the Role of China Japan Future Leaders". He first introduced the trajectory and performance of the development of the People's Republic of China in the past 70 years, and made a comparative analysis against the background of the world economic pattern in the past 200 years and the past 2000 years, respectively, explaining the context of the "the Belt and Road" concept and the feasibility of China Japan third-party market cooperation. Professor Ji emphasized that in 2019, the economic scale of China, Japan and the ROK is expected to reach 21 trillion US dollars, surpassing the economic scale of the United States, which is bound to have a profound impact on the global pattern. At the same time, the economic scale and trade scale of the entire Asian region have accounted for one third of the world's total, and maintain the highest growth rate in the world. In the new era, how to maintain such rapid economic development and prosperity is in the common interest of Asian countries. On the extension line of this logic, the most easily reached consensus among countries is to adhere to the free trade system, maintain the existing world order and rule system. China and Japan should join hands to oppose any practices that violate international economic rules. At least in the East Asian region, various rules of the United Nations and WTO should be better implemented. On this basis, it is necessary to sign China Japan South Korea FTA as soon as possible, so as to realize the reasonable division of labor and proper integration of Asian economy through RECP. Professor Ji believes that this is a sacred mission of future leaders of China and Japan. He also said that the Japan Research Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University would actively participate in and promote exchanges and cooperation between the top universities of the two countries, try to enhance mutual understanding between excellent Chinese and Japanese students and graduate students, and strive to cultivate a group of outstanding leaders and innovative talents for the rejuvenation of East Asia.
