The fifth of "East Asia Law and Economy Series Lectures" of Shanghai Jiaotong University was held at the Research Center of Jiaotong University

In the afternoon of June 14, the fifth of the "East Asian Law and Economy Series Lectures" of Shanghai Jiaotong University, "The Recent Trend of Sino Japanese Economic Relations", was successfully held at the Japan Research Center on the fourth floor of the north of Shanghai Jiaotong University. This lecture invited Mr. Hayi Chungzhao, Counsellor of the Japanese Embassy in China, as the keynote speaker, and Professor Chen Zilei, Director of the Japan Economic Research Center of Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, as the reviewer. Professor Ji Weidong, director of Japan Research Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University, served as the host. At the same time, many well-known scholars and entrepreneurs participated.

First of all, Mr. Zhongzhao Heyi delivered a speech on the topic of "The recent trend of China Japan economic relations". He introduced Japan's foreign policy and the progress of cooperation between Japan and other countries in relevant fields in six aspects: China Japan relations and the trend of dialogue between the two countries in recent years, China Japan financial cooperation, AOE mutual recognition, third-party market cooperation, economic cooperation agreements, G20 finance ministers and central bank presidents' meetings.

Mr. He Yi first introduced the measures taken and results achieved by China and Japan in improving their relations since 2016, including the high-level dialogue between the two countries and the signed memorandum of cooperation. For specific Sino Japanese financial cooperation, he introduced the progress of Sino Japanese cross-border financial transactions, including the promotion of the RMB free exchange policy, the establishment of the Japanese RMB clearing bank, the gradual opening of the bond sector and the establishment of the EFT listed index fund. Regarding AEO, he introduced the relevant origin of AEO and the results of mutual recognition of the AEO list between China and Japan. In terms of third-party market cooperation, Mr. Heyi introduced the standards of third-party market cooperation and appreciated China's statements on openness and transparency. In terms of the progress of the Economic Cooperation Agreement, Mr. Heyi introduced the current progress of major EPA. Finally, Mr. He Yi introduced the results of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank President's Meeting and expressed his own views. He believed that when discussing the economy, we should not only look at the trade surplus or deficit, but also look at the composition of foreign income and expenditure in many aspects. At the same time, he hoped that China could be more transparent in the information on foreign aid.

Later, Professor Chen Zilei made comments. Professor Chen Zilei first agreed with Prime Minister Abe's foreign policy introduced by Mr. Hayi. Later, he expressed his views on monetary policy, fiscal field and trade agreements in response to Mr. Heyi's speech. First, in terms of monetary policy, he believed that Japan's recent currency appreciation would put pressure on the financial sector. In the financial field, Professor Chen Zilei expressed his views on the Japan US trade war. He believed that Japan's large enterprises had completed the industrial layout of North America in the Japan US trade war and maintained a stable trade surplus, so Japan did not lose in the Japan US trade war. In terms of trade agreements, Professor Chen Zilei believes that China still has a long way to go in terms of tariff reduction, but believes that China and Japan will further open up in more areas besides the financial field.

During the questioning and discussion stage, the speech was very enthusiastic and the opinions were brilliant. Professor Zhai Xin expressed his own views on the policies of the United States and Japan towards China, while Professor Wang Shaopu raised his own questions on the considerations of the policy towards China in the context of the Japan US alliance. Associate Professor Cui Xiangmei expressed his opinions from the perspective of securities trading connectivity, and Mr. Lin Haijian expounded the impact of American policies on enterprises from the perspective of investors.

Finally, Professor Ji Weidong, Director of the Japan Research Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University, on behalf of the Japan Research Center, thanked Mr. Tadao Hayi for his efforts and achievements in improving Sino Japanese economic cooperation during his stay in China, as well as this wonderful speech, and presented Mr. Hayi with the first issue and souvenirs of the latest publication of the Japan Research Center, East Asia Studies.
