On29 September 2023, Ji Weidong, University Professor of Humanity and SocialSciences and Director of the Center for Japanese Studies at Shanghai Jiao TongUniversity, was invited to attend the 2023 Annual Meeting of the Japan ChinaLeadership Program at Tokyo Festival Hall in Japan and gave a lecture on thetopic of "Metaverse Economic Circle and its Law Response ——China's Realityand International Comparison".
ProfessorJi Weidong delivered a speech focused on four key points: "InstitutionalInnovation in Metaverse", "Legal Repositioning of People and Objectsin Metaverse", "Restrictions and Legal Practices on NFTTransactions", and "Technologies and Policies to Prevent BlockchainFraud". He said that generative AI and AIGC and Metaverse are actuallycomplementary to each other, and the rapid growth of generative AI in China canbe seen from the so-called "Hundred Modules Battle", and in parallelwith this, the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Industryand Information Technology of China released the "Preparation plan for theEstablishment of the Standardization Working Group on Metaverse of the Ministryof Industry and Information Technology (Draft for Opinion)" on 18thSeptember 2023 to publicly solicit opinions on Metaverse standardization work.Slightly earlier, the relevant Japanese institutions also released the"Research Report on Moving Towards the Web3 Era by Using the Metaverse,etc." on July 18th. He pointed out that China and Japan could furtherexchange and cooperate in the field of digital economy such as Metaverse andthe design of related systems.
Establishedin March 2015, the "Japan China Leadership Program (JCLP)" aims todeepen mutual understanding of the similarities and differences between Chinaand Japan through sharing and discussion, and to build a relationship of mutualrespect and trust through exchanges in order to construct a future-orientedpartnership system. Every year, the program selects 20-30 representativesfrom each of the emerging forces in the fields of finance, business, scienceand technology, media, public welfare, sports and culture of China and Japan,and conducts 1-2 exchange activities in China and Japan. Nearly 100 Mesozoicindustry elites from China and Japan were invited to the conference to conductin-depth discussions and visits on current hot topics, such as marketcooperation between China and Japan in third countries, Chinese enterprisesgoing overseas, the development and cooperation of the emerging entertainmentindustry in the two countries, as well as the relationship between the twocountries in the post-epidemic era. Miyamoto Yuji, former Japanese Ambassadorto China, Ted Tokuchi, Executive Director of the Centre for IndustrialDevelopment and Environmental Governance of Tsinghua University, Wang Shi,founder and honorary chairman of Vanke Group, and Zhang Lihui, president ofCaixin Media, also attended the conference on the 29th and made wonderfulspeeches or addresses.
Itis reported that during his visit to Japan, Director Ji Weidong also visited anumber of senior advisers and directors of the Centre and exchanged views onthe promotion of student visits and exchanges, the strengthening of cooperationin Asian culture and education, and the organization of high-end forums, inaddition to awarding renewed letters of appointment.
