Relations with Courtesy and Reciprocity- The Japanese-Consulate in Shanghai submits a Certificate of Commendation to the Center for Japan Studies of Shanghai Jiao Tong University

On March 22, Weidong Ji the Director of the Center for Japan Studies of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Ke Chen the Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, Yuping Cai the Deputy Director of the Center, Zhihua Zheng, the Associate Researcher, Yingfang Chen the Professor of the School of International and Public Affairs, and Yue Xu and Lu Liu the main members of the Administrative Office, made up the the delegation to the residence of the Consulate-General of Japan in Shanghai to attend the Commendation ceremony for the Center for Japan Studies of Shanghai Jiao Tong University by the Consulate--General of Japan in Shanghai.


At the Commendation ceremony, the Consul-General of Japan Akio Isomata (ambassadorial title) expressed gratitude and respect to the Center for Japan Studies for its contribution to the Mutual understanding, Economic cooperation and Non-governmental exchanges between China and Japan. Expressed hope to continue to deepen the cooperation of Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the two countries by holding regular Sino-Japanese Enterprise and Innovation Cooperation Forums. Ambassador Isomata specifically mentioned that next year will be the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between China and Japan, and we should look forward to Sino-Japanese relations after 2022 on the basis of past experience.

In speech by Professor Weidong Ji, director of the Center for Japan Studies, expressed his gratitude to the Japanese-Consulate General in Shanghai for their commendation and support, and reviewed the main activities by the research center in the past three years, especially the Sino-Japanese Business Innovation Cooperation Forum and the Corporate Legal Affairs Series. The results achieved by the forum indicated that they are willing to continue to build an exchange platform for cooperation in trade and technology between enterprises of the two countries. He also state that as neighbors and core countries in the East Asia, we should make joint contributions to the peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.

Since the establishment of the Center for Japan Studies of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in June 2018, the former Consul-General of Japan in Shanghai Kazuyuki Katayama and the current Consul-General of Japan in Shanghai Akio Isomata have been invited many times to host various events organized by the Center for Japan Studies. Academic lectures and forum speeches provided strong support to the work of the Center for Japan Studies. In March 2019, the Sino-Japanese Business and Innovation Cooperation Forum, as one of the Sino-Japanese government cooperation projects, was co-founded by the Center for Japan Studies of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Japanese Consulate-General in Shanghai. Despite the impact of the Corona-Virus, this forum has been successfully held three times so far. It has launched various topics on aspects of culture, health, system innovation in an aging society, and Sino-Japan health cooperation in the post-epidemic era. The discussions provides an intellectual boost for Chinese and Japanese enterprises in various fields.

During meal times, Ambassador Akio Isomata, Director Weidong Ji, Deputy Director Ke Chen and other professors and experts, discussed the possibility of the future development of the Sino-Japanese Business Innovation Cooperation Forum, and other fields such as cooperation in Marine Economy and Ecological Environment Protection. Also discussed the preparations for the 50th anniversary of China and Japan’s diplomatic relations.
