On July 22, Yamamoto, head of the Intellectual Property Department of the Beijing Representative Office of the Japan Trade Promotion Agency (JETRO), paid a visit to the Japan Research Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Ji Weidong, director of the Japan Research Center, Cai Yuping, deputy director, Chen Hailei, director of the International Student Development Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Gu Zhiheng, intellectual property management office of the Scientific Research Institute, etc. received guests and held talks in the conference room on the second floor of the Japan Research Center.
Director Ji Weidong first welcomed the visit of Yamamoto Ying and his delegation. He reviewed the basic situation and activities of the Japan Research Center since its establishment on June 23, 2018. He said that since its establishment, the Japan Research Center has successfully held three Nitto lectures and five East Asian law and economy lectures. On March 16, 2019, the Sino Japanese Enterprise Innovation Cooperation Forum jointly hosted by the Japan Research Center and the Consulate General of Japan in Shanghai was successfully held, attracting nearly 250 people. The forum is planned to be held twice a year in Shanghai in the future, aiming to build a platform for in-depth dialogue and exchange between Chinese and Japanese entrepreneurs and scholars on innovation cooperation in the health industry and other fields. At the same time, the first China Japan Enterprise Legal Forum co sponsored by the Japanese Research Center and the Japan Business Law Friends Association was successfully held in Tokyo, Japan, on September 3, 2018. The forum received extensive attention from corporate legal professionals and scholars, and was unprecedented. The Forum will be held alternately in Shanghai, China and Tokyo, Japan every year. On April 26, 2019, the Tokyo Office of the Japan Research Center was officially opened. The Japan Research Center plans to attract more outstanding students to Shanghai Jiaotong University to study abroad and study for degrees, relying on the Tokyo office. It also provides high-end training programs such as EMBA courses for operators, professionals and cadres in China and Japan. In addition, the academic journal East Asian Studies (semiannual) sponsored by the Japan Research Center has officially launched and successfully published the first issue.

Mr. Yamamoto expressed his thanks to Director Ji Weidong for his warm reception. He said that the Japan Research Center has made considerable efforts to promote China Japan cooperation and exchanges in such a short time since its establishment, which is very admirable. Later, he introduced his experience of joining the Franchising Office of the Ministry of Economy and Industry of Japan, and said that China's technology research and development progress is amazing, and its influence in the field of intellectual property is very strong, which has become the primary concern of the Franchising Office of the Ministry of Economy and Industry of Japan. Therefore, in 2019, the Franchise Office sent two personnel to China to learn more about China's development trend in the field of intellectual property as JETRO, so as to better play the role of bridge to promote exchanges and cooperation between the two countries. Mr. Yamamoto is one of the two personnel stationed in China dispatched by the Franchise Department of the Ministry of Economy and Industry of Japan.

Mr. Yamamoto said that in order to further enable cadres and staff to learn and master the latest overseas scientific and technological developments as well as relevant knowledge of intellectual property laws and policies, the Japanese Concession Office provided cadres and staff with the opportunity to study abroad. The purpose of this visit is to learn about Shanghai Jiaotong University's recruitment of overseas students and researchers. Later, Chen Hailei, the director of the International Student Development Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Gu Zhiheng, the intellectual property management office of the Scientific Research Institute, introduced to Mr. Yamamoto the degree programs and science and technology research programs of Shanghai Jiaotong University that are open to the outside world, and expressed their great welcome to the Japanese Franchise Office for sending international students and researchers to Shanghai Jiaotong University for exchange and cooperation. Professor Ji Weidong also introduced the LLM Chinese French English curriculum of Kaiyuan Law School, the international program of summer camp and winter camp, and the special seminar program of Japan Research Center. Finally, the two sides agreed to continue in-depth communication and exchange with the goal of admission in September 2020 and the Japan Research Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University as the platform, so as to facilitate the Japanese Franchise Office to send overseas students and visiting researchers to Shanghai Jiaotong University for study and research as soon as possible.
